A Summer
Quest for Your Favorite Things
Raindrops on roses and
whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things
What are your favorite things? When was the last time you saw a brown
paper package tied up with strings? It is true that while some things
change over time, some things always remain the same. The same can be
said for how things are done here at Trinity.
Jesus tells us to “Go,” “Teach,” “Make disciples,” “Fish”… That’s what
we are all about, right? Growing Disciples for Christ. The message we
teach - the One we love and who loves us never changes. That’s the
Good News!
What does change is how we bring that message to others. Teaching and
making disciples is exciting stuff! Really? Yes, really! The staff at
Trinity is working hard in these summer months to bring themselves
up-to-date on possible programs, resources, and opportunities, and
make them available to all of us in the coming school year. I am very
excited when we gather each week for our staff meeting, and I hear of
some of these opportunities.
Could you use some help with your finances? How about getting a ‘Total
Money Makeover’?
How are you doing in the relationship department? How about taking a
Marriage Enrichment course for couples?
Do you like to read? We will be reading a book that is sweeping
churches throughout the country!
Do you need to get away? How about going on a retreat or a family
mission trip?
How we learn and grow may not always be thought of as one of our
favorite things. But one thing is for sure, it is always a good thing.
Time and time again I hear testimonials from our Trinity family
regarding how much more connected they feel to their church, how much
more fun it is to be involved, how many more people they know, etc.,
just by jumping in and trying something.
In our weekend worship services on August 7 and 8 you will have the
opportunity to complete a survey of what types of things you would
like to see offered here at Trinity, the times that work best for you,
and the format in which you like to learn. So give it some thought.
Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings…
You won’t find animals and bells, or strudels and noodles here at
Trinity; although come to think of it, I wouldn’t rule it out! The
important thing is not how many things we have to offer, but that what
we have to offer is relevant and provides a nurturing environment for
all of us to grow as disciples so that we will continue to shine
beyond the walls of our beautiful church, and let others in on the
Good News!
When the world bites
When my life stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember that my God loves me
And then I don't feel so bad
Keep Shining!
